Death by Design
|
An interesting episode, looking into when designer drugs first began to appear. The world was about cocaine at the time and they're just looking into the synthetic drugs. A woman gets infatuated by a male hooker / gigolo and then chaos breaks loose.
Spenser enlists Hawk for protective help - but then Hawk goes to the other side to help protect the druggies. Spenser actually gets angry with Hawk for playing the other side. Doesn't Spenser trust Hawk by now?
In the end, Spenser catches the drug dealer. He talks about:
The best laid plans of mice and men
gang aft agley
Hawk is baffled by it :). This is a classic quote by Burns, a famous poet. It means "go oft awry" and means that you never know what life will throw at you.
Spenser's competitor here has a "cutting edge computer" worth $12,000 and it's a simple machine with two 5 1/4" floppy drives. Very silly :)
Also, Spenser refers to Copley (pronounced Cop-pley as in Cop like police) as "Coh-Pley" (pronounced as in Ice Cream Cone). Surely he should know better.
I love how Hawk and Spenser meet at the traditional Harvard Square magazine stand, and Hawk poses as a college profssor. You also get a glimpse of Filene's Basement.
