Beltsen's wife vanishes, and he's shot down, so Spenser tries to find out who took her and who shot Beltsen. He finds she's not as perfect as she seemed, and is in the clutches of an ex lover by Merrimac college. You get half the story from her point of view as her kidnapper comes to terms with his own life, she holds on to hers, and Spenser tries to find her.
Lisa Says: I didn't really like the back-and-forth, especially at the end, but I don't know how the story could have been told otherwise. I've actually driven past this area, tho I didn't feel like driving into it to find the buildings mentioned :). Chollo comes out from California for this, to help out Spenser. Hawk isn't available. Susan's become quite tolerable at this point.
