A topical book, as usual, and nicely done. Spenser gets involved in college basketball "game fixing" at Taft University west of Boston. New York bad guys are involved in the action, and Spenser and Hawk have to do some investigative work to figure out who is doing what, and meanwhile try to save an illiterate athlete who doesn't realize he needs saving.
Lisa Says: This was a really interesting
story, with all sorts of interesting information on the game and on how
athletes get passed through the system. It was interesting hearing
different takes on how an illiterate student can graduate from college.
Spenser was hung up on the "lovely girlfriend" and wanted to save the guy
"for her", sort of. Susan was actually helpful and non-intrusive in this
one. She's becoming "more athletic" - working out at least once a day, and
her "nibbling" is becoming extreme.
