Based on the 1997 book by the same name (Read the Review), Small Vices stars Joe Mantegna as Spenser and Marcia Gay Harden as Susan Silverman. Filmed in Toronto.
This was an interesting story to film, because it is probably the one in which Spenser most has to face his own mortality. There are a lot of black-white issues in this one as well as Spenser-relying-on-others. Susan and Hawk both have strong roles in the movie as Spenser tries to figure out if a black man really is guilty of raping and murdering a white woman. The woman's parents just want the black man to suffer.
Lisa's Notes I thought they did a very good job in the movie of showing the racial issues going on and how Spenser stands against them and against the threats made on his own life. |
