Susan's ex-husband shows up in her life after 20 years and says he needs help. Susan sends along Spenser, who soon finds out that not only is the sexual-harrassment lawsuit hard to figure out, but that there's charity swindling and links to criminal people. A few murders occur, Susan goes from completely insane to pretty logical, and Spenser sorts everything out.

She's sad about what she's dragged Spenser through and what she's gotten him
into again. She refuses to talk about her past, gets all nasty about things.
And yet Spenser keeps going. At one point, Spenser advises someone that it's better
to keep a secret instead of being honest!! He doesn't really investigate as much as
have things happen to him. Sort of sad.
