Thin Air
made-for-TV-movie
2000 on A&E
Based on the 1995 book by the same name (Read the Review), Thin Air stars Joe Mantegna as Spenser and Marcia Gay Harden as Susan Silverman. Nice performances are put in by Yancy Butler as Lisa St. Claire and the great Luis Guzmán as Chollo. It was filmed in Canada, not Boston, though. Ah well ...
The story pretty much follows the book in this one. Hawk is off in Burma when Belson's young, new wife, Lisa, is kidnapped by an old Latin lover. Spenser has to go into a run-down town and deal with the incompetent police there. Lisa's kidnapper, Luis, is kingpin in this town. Spenser therefore calls to California to get Chollo to come and help him out.
Luis is definitely a bit out-of-touch, but he does actually have his heart in the right place, trying to create a better world (of a sort) for his gang members. Spenser and Lisa almost feel badly for him when his world comes (literally) crashing down on his head.
Lisa's Notes I liked this version a lot and have watched this video several times. One of the better movie versions of Spenser that's out there. |
