Spenser's in good with the underworld now - a crime lord, Ventura, comes to seek assistance in finding his daughter's missing husband. Turns out things are stirring up now that Joe has "retired", so we get to meet Ventura and Vinnie, Gino and Marty, Fast Eddie Lee, and even the people who work for Tony Marcus. There's a call into Chollo when help is needed, and Hawk and Susan figure prominantly. It's a reunion of cast members! Just a picture of Paul, though. In the end just about everyone is related to everyone else and, while Spenser tries to do right, he's still not perfect. Which is why we love him.
Lisa Says: Very well written, neat descriptions of Vegas and the whole twisted inter-relationships. Spenser's more thoughtful, willing to listen, thinking about how he does things. Maturity and age? Who knows. Susan is very tolerable, becoming more of a "Jewish American Princess". And the past two stories had doorknob troubles never heard of before. Bob the Waiter was a nice touch. My favorite touch is when he's thinking about the Russians (also moving in to the mob scene) and answers the phone with "Da?" :)
