Autumn Leaves

A lovely episode. It's set in the Berkshires - the western hilly part of Massachusetts - in the fall. There is autumn foliage everywhere. Spenser witnesses a theft of a religious artifact, then heads out there to talk to a woman who is involved in a Shakespeare theater. Soon Spenser and Susan are settling in at a lovely inn.
Spenser decides to help the thieves, as they are in over their head with Boston bad guys. Spenser ends up in a powder-blue VW bug which backfires constantly, and he's in a gunfight where he's shot. Seems he gets shot quite a lot in this series.
Hawk comes out to deliver a message, and then sticks around despite claiming that he's returning to Boston because "the city beckons". He saves a young man from being killed. Spenser ends up getting the thieves to retire, and returns the stolen art item to its home.
