Messages in Twitter

Messages in Twitter can be confusing. It's important to know that Messages are PRIVATE and are ONLY SEEN BY YOU and the sender. That's it. They in no way impact or are seen by anyone else.

The way to see your messages is, logically enough, to click the messages icon in the very top bar.

Messages in Twitter

Pretty much 99% of the time what you'll see in there is spam. The only people who can message you are people you follow, and often the first thing a person does once they're followed is fire off a private message with a spam promotion. Ignore and delete all of those. Many times that activity is done by a robot for the person so they don't even know it's happening. It is like those robo calls from Rachel at Cardholder Services which do little but wake you up from a nap.

Sometimes they're friendly spam, like "thank you for the follow" which aren't much better.

Still, it's good to check every week or so just in case something important is in here. Because these are wholly private, this is sometimes how people alert other people about something embarrassing like a typo in their profile text. It's good to look in there to see what people are writing to you.

But, in general, it's going to be robotic promotions which can be ignored.
