Manage your Followers

As your followers grow, it becomes important to manage which you are following and which you need to prune away. This can be a time consuming task to do by hand. This is where Tweepi comes in.

You can sign up for a free account here - Tweepi.com. This has both a free and a for-pay aspect to it. The free account side is functional and can let you see if you want to pay for the more comprehensive aspects.

Accounts you Follow which have Gone Dormant
First, Tweepi lets you look at anybody you are following who has gone inactive. If you are "investing" a follower spot on CeciliasLowCarb and it turns out they have NEVER POSTED ONE TWEET in the past nine years, it's probably time to unfollow them. You're getting no benefit out of that follow and you could use that spot to follow someone else who actually posts.

Active People who are Following You - that You aren't Following Back
Then it's time to look at people who are following you and who are active - but you aren't following back. This is a trickier list. It could be a porn spammer who is following you and who is tweeting porn spam all day long. Just because they're active and are following you doesn't necessarily mean you want to follow them back. Maybe this is a good way to find and block them.

You can sort the list by last time they posted, number of followers the account has, or follower ratio. So these let you spot the more active / high follower accounts and examine them for following back.

The down side, with the free account, is they only show 20 accounts at a time and the sort options only work within those 20 accounts. So if you have a huge volume account following you but it's on page 35 of your results you won't see about it until you sit there paging through 35 pages of information. The free account WILL let you see 40 names at once but only if you send out a promotional tweet for them. So that's a bit iffy.

Upgrading costs a fairly sizeable $7.49/mo for Silver or $14.99/mo for gold. That's as much as many website hosting plans cost.

Also, you can only manage one Twitter account at a time. So if you have multiple Twitter accounts you're back to logging in and out of each one to manage them.

So while some of these tools are useful, they are fairly expensive and for most people that just won't be worth it.
