Choosing a Twitter Top Banner

The Twitter icon is the most branded image on your Twitter account. However, that top banner is also critical. It's what is seen when people are looking through follower lists or choosing who to follow. It's important that the banner be meaningful.

The banner is sized 1263 pixels wide by 421 pixels high. Don't be fooled into thinking that everyone will see it at that huge size, though. Again, most Twitter followers will see a vastly shrunk version of that. So make sure your image is clear and powerful even at a small size. Don't rely on tiny text.

Here's the banner I use for my Worcester MA site. I used several iconic images I'd taken around Worcester to represent the town.

You can play with banners and change them out as you have new releases or information. They aren't as "static" as profile images should be. Just remember to make sure they're legible at the small size.
