Dressing to Minimize Acne

If you take a look at fashion magazines, you realize that just about every single person in those photos has imperfections. The key is that they know how to keep your eyes "distracted" from those imperfections. If someone has a really fat butt, they dress in a way that keeps your eyes directed at their neck area. There's a trick to handle every body flaw. There are most definitely ways to help minimize any acne problems you might have.

Hair
If you're female and can wear your hair "up", then that will draw the eye up and away from your face. If you have short hair, you can still put a flower, ribbon or other colorful item in your hair. If you're a guy it's harder - just do your best to have your hair very clean and fresh looking. If your hair looks really nice, people will naturally look at that and not focus on your face as much.

Makeup
Usually this is just a recourse that women can use. Don't lay it on super thick, though. Again, you're trying to make your face "mild" - not draw attention to it. Use a foundation that matches your skin tone as close as possible. Use very light eye shadow, and a lip color that matches your natural color. For men, you might get away with little dabs of foundation or cover-up just on the acne area, to minimize any bright red or white colors. You want the acne area to look as "neutral" as you possibly can.

Jewelry
If you wear earrings, wear something extremely low key - you don't want peoples' eyes to be up near your face area. On the other hand, search through your collection and get a REALLY cool looking necklace. Make it something that people will comment on. If you get people paying attention to your necklace and thinking it is really cool, that gives them something to admire while not noticing your acne.

Clothing
Zits are usually red and white. Stay FAR away from these colors in your clothing. When you wear a color, it emphasizes your own body's parts with that color. Say you have green eyes. If you wear a green outfit, it'll make your green eyes stand out even more. Think of other colors you really love and feel good in. Blues, greens, browns and similar colors will do quite well.

Be Happy
We react very strongly to how a person is feeling. If you are smiling, happy and having fun, then we focus on your smile, on your happy eyes, and on your motions. If you are unhappy, we tend to focus more on the face to figure out why - and that is where your acne is. This ties into what you're wearing in the sense that people who wear clothes they "feel good in" tend to feel more happy. If you're female and have a green slinky dress you really feel shows off your body well, then that self confidence will radiate from you. Your acne will barely be noticed. If you're a guy and are cracking jokes and flirting, few will care at all about your acne. I've known many guys with acne who were incredibly popular. Nobody cared that they had some spots on their face - everyone was having far too much fun to care.
