Anime Video Creation - DVD to MPEG
Be sure that you have Planned out your anime movie video project before you start slicing and dicing the DVD. You rarely want to get the *entire* DVD onto your hard drive.
The first step in making your own anime music video or anime mini-clip is to get the DVD of the anime and turn it into a MPEG or WMV file.
There are many software packages out there that you can buy to do this for you. The one that I like to use is:
IMToo.com DVD Ripper
You can download it for free to test out how it works - and registering it is only $35. That's really inexpensive for such a cool software product. It's really very easy. You put your DVD into your computer. You click on the various tracks to find the piece you want. You can isolate it down to a very specific segment of the video. You choose what output format you want - AVI, MPEG, etc. Then you hit the rip button and voila! You have the file on your hard drive, ready for making a music video with.
I really recommend only doing SPECIFIC TRACKS here. Uncheck all tracks. Then check the one track you want. Select it. Give it a specific name in the upper box area. Then go into File - Rip Selected Track. That way you can keep track of exactly what tracks you are working with. Otherwise once you start building lots of tracks up, you will get completely confused.
In a test run I did, a video of 6 1/2 minutes came out to 86mb in MPG format, and 68mb in WMV format. These files are large - make sure you have lots of disc space free!
Note that I do NOT condone stealing videos in any way! Anime creators work incredibly hard to make anime that we enjoy. I know many anime series that were cut short because of piracy. That is really awful! If you like an anime series, find a way to save up your money and buy the videos. It's our responsibility as anime lovers to help these companies stay alive.
Once you have the anime clips on your hard drive, the next step is to assemble them into a cool sequence. That is where you need your movie editing software.
