Anime Video Creation - Assembling your Movie
Once you have all your video clips ready on your hard drive - Instructions on DVD to MPEG are here - it's time to put them into a sequence that is meaningful. This is where you need movie editing software.
There are of course many to choose from, but if you're using a Windows system, you got one for free. This is called Windows Movie Maker. It's fairly easy to use, and if you have a directory full of MPEG files, it's as simple as drag and drop.
Open up Movie Maker. On the left, under the "Capture Video" title, click on "Import Video". Click on all of the MPEG files that you have ripped. It'll load them all into the working area for you. Note that each MPEG will be broken up into easy to manage segments. All segments for a given file will be organized into one "collection". You can move between your collections by using the drop-down at the top of the menu area.
On the lower part of the screen, click the "timeline" button to give you your timeline area.
In essence the lower area is one long bar, with time markers, showing you what will play at each second. Your task is to drag the little blocks of DVD footage onto that timeline, in whatever order you wish to see them. So say you have Parakeet-001 and Parakeet-002 as two video files. To show the 002 file first, you would simply drag the 002 file onto your timeline, starting at time 0:00. Then you would drag the 001 file onto the timeline, to begin after the end of the 001 file.
You can choose exactly what portion of each file you wish to play, too. By putting your mouse at the beginning or end of any file on the timeline, you can shrink down the segment that actually plays. Use the little "play" button right over the timeline area to see the results of your snipping.
Once you get your scenes in the correct order, it's time to start working with the audio track.
