Quebec Ice Hotel Photos and Notes
The Spa and Sleeping Rooms
I didn't take a photo of the spa area - in a protected courtyard there were 2 hot tubs and a sauna, and a small heated building for changing and blow drying hair in. The hot tub is open from 8pm to 9am - i.e. when only residents of the hotel are around, mostly. Only one of the hot tubs was open, but it was just gorgeous. The moon was out full, the air was crisp but not nasty, there was no wind at all because of the protective wall. We hung out in the hot tub for quite a while, talking with the other visitors. It was really strange to have a warm body but to have the ends of my hair with icicles in them!
Finally we got sleepy. It was time to get ready for bed. Here are pictures of the "normal" rooms in the complex. There are 3 corridors of rooms. On one end each corridor connects to the bar area. The other end opens out to the 'outside world' - with the wall there of course. Each room had a fabric hanging as a doorway, and had a hole in its roof. So the whole system was very "open" in one sense, but because of the high outside wall, there were no breezes or anything. You didn't get a cold wind blowing through, just a still, cool feeling.
Here's Jenn standing in one of the corridors - facing the "outer entrance" with the inner bar behind her.

Here are 3 of the standard rooms. They are all simply igloos of ice with 1-4 beds in them, and a hole in the ceiling. Each bed has an outer ice frame, an inner foam block to sleep on and then your sleeping bag goes on top of that. They were pretty utilitarian. The bed, maybe a table, and that was it. No windows or anything. Believe me, if you go to the ice hotel, you really want to pay to sleep in a suite. It is well worth it.

Now, to take a look at the suites!
