Book Spine Text - Left or Right?

When you make your full cover image, you know that you have to have a spine in the center of it.

But while it's clear how to arrange the text on the front and back cover - how about that spine? Should one tilt one's head to the right or to the left?

Interestingly, the answer to this question depends on where you live.

In the United States, it is standard for one to tilt one's head to the right in order to read spine text. That is how it is shown in the example. However, in many places in Europe, the standard is for one to tilt one's head to the left.

So you need to consider where most of your readers live. Are you selling primarily to a European audience on a European website? If so, you'll go for the left text.

But if you are selling primarily to US buyers, it's best to go with the standard in the US and tilt your text 90 degrees to the right.
