CafePress Sample of a Print Copy

This is a Historic document. As of July 2017, even though the CafePress site still had help documents explaining how to use their self publishing system, their self publishing wing was no longer functional. When I wrote them to ask about the help documents, they apologized and said they would be taking those down.

I ordered my copy at 3:30am on Wednesday, August 15th. At 1:59am on Sunday, August 19th I got an email that it had been shipped out, with a UPS tracking link. The book arrived on Friday, August 24th. It arrived in my mailbox, brought by the regular postperson.

The cover does not seem as crisp as the Lulu cover. Here is a comparison against a regular "professional" romance book. My CafePress book is on the right.

For the back cover, CafePress does NOT put a barcode on for you. The other self-publishers I tested all do that for you. So if you don't add the barcode yourself, there is none, which means your book can't be sold at any store.

I chose to create a spine that had a background image on it. CafePress does not offer any "do it for you" cover options. You have to load everything in yourself.

Here are the inside pages. The bottom one is my book. The pages are "yellower" than the regular romance novel - but not as "white" as the Lulu version. The letters are crisp and easy to read. Note that I got the pagination right on this one :) The left pages are on the left side!

NOTE: On Oct 10 2007 CafePress announced that they are going to ALL WHITE for all of their perfect bound books. So now we're stuck with the hard to read white background!
