Walking Meditation Basics

Walking meditation is a good style of meditation to start with. It's easy to learn, and it provides motion to keep your mind engaged.



For me, walking meditation is good in some situations and not-so-good in others. On the good side, it's a form of exercise as well as meditation. The motion helps to keep me engaged on the heel-ball-toe repetition, which tends to hold off distracting thoughts. I can explore lovely forest areas while I meditate. I am much more aware of the slowing down of my speed and thoughts. I am also aware of my body's tension and able to release it.

On the down side, if I walk in my house, it is very messy here. So I tend to get distracted / discouraged by the mess.
