Recommended Taurine Amount in Cat Food

Taurine is a type of protein - it is an amino acid. The reason that taurine in particular is always mentioned on cat labels is that lack of taurine in a cat's diet can cause SERIOUS health problems. Low levels of taurine intake can lead to:

cardiomyopathy
blindness

It is very critical that the cat food you feed your cat have enough taurine in it. The amount recommended by the AAFCO Cat Nutritional Guidelines is .2%.
