Recycling Cat Food Cans

Pretty much everybody recycles aluminum cans. These are the cans that soda comes in. SOME pet food comes in aluminum cans. Usually these aren't marked "aluminum" on them :) The way you know they are aluminum is that a magnet will NOT stick to them. Aluminum is non-magnetic.

The other type of metal commonly used in cat food is tin. Tin IS magnetic - if you stick a magnet on the side of a tin can, it will stick at least a little. Tin is used for many human foods - carrots, peas, etc. Note that most modern recycling locations will take both aluminum AND tin. Some ask that you sort out between one and the other. Others will just take both mixed in. Ask and find out. It's always of course best to find a way to recycle both types of cans.

Tuna fish normally comes in a tin can, and again this can be recycled as long as your recycling station takes in tin. Check and find out how to handle these types of cans.

Pretty much all recycling groups want your metal to be CLEAN so be sure to give it a rinse in the sink to remove any food bits!
