Meaty Morsels treats from Pounce
It's important to note first of all that Pounce / Meaty Morsels is NOT a full time food for a cat. These are treats, to be served sparingly. If you had an infant, you wouldn't feed the kid chocolate chip cookies all day long!Meaty Morsels says all over the packaging that it's "made with REAL CHICKEN" and has a "Moist Chicken Flavor". So I promptly took a look at the ingredient list. As you know, ingredient lists are shown in order of volume - so the thing listed first is what most of the food is made of, then the second thing is the second most voluminous item in the food, and so on. The ingredient list says:
Soybean flour
Animal digest
Wheat gluten
Beef
Water
Glycerin
Wheat flour
Chicken
OK, first off, cats don't go around eating soybeans. Next comes "animal digest". This is one of the scariest things any creature could eat. In essence, digest means "anything that couldn't normally be eaten, but we made it able to be eaten by heating it up, adding water, etc." This could be chicken feet. It could be horse hooves. It could be feathers. Whatever it is, it's not quality enough to count as MEAT.
Then we go through wheat, and beef, and other items before we FINALLY get to chicken. So much for something touting itself as being "REAL CHICKEN" as its main feature. I suppose that animal digest could be chicken feet in amongst the other animal stuff, but who can tell?
The food itself looks like very dried out bits of light brown "stuff", vaguely chicken meat shaped. I tried it out on my cats. One cat ate it - Hamlet, the one who eats anything. Julie took a few sniffs and decided this was simply not edible.
My verdict? Eat some tuna fish and give your cat bits of REAL tuna, or eat some chicken and give your cat little bits of REAL chicken (no bones of course). This 'treat' just isn't my idea of what should go into my cats.
