Kauai - Pride of America

Friday morning - our last full day on the ship. Bob was supposed to play golf today, but it was very rainy out. The game was cancelled, so once again he brought me in breakfast while I slept, then we rested a while.

For lunch we decided to try the Skyline restaurant since we hadn't eaten there at all. There was a waiting line to get in there, but we told them we'd be happy to sit with someone and they said it would only be 5 minutes. As it turned out, they sat us at our own table.

The lunch options really weren't better in any way than the buffet area, and the trade-off is that service is slower :) I suppose you do get the "nice experience" of being waited on :)

I was actually happy to be here because they had cottage cheese - something never seen in the buffet area. Even though it was "supposed" to be with the fruit dessert, they were quite happy to bring me soup and salad with cottage cheese with it. The soup was tasty, it was a small won ton bowl which worked much better than the giant bowl with one little won ton of the east west restaurant. The salad was OK but I still think they could do salads MUCH better. They give you big plain lettuce plus big beefsteak tomatoes. It is just not nearly as tasty as salads I get in most on-land restaurants.

Still, the server was friendly and helpful and relatively quick. We wanted to make sure we got out on the deck for sailing away, and did manage to do that.

We gathered up our camera gear and headed up onto the deck. I stopped by the library and donated my four books on Hawaii and Cruising, and they were very happy to have them! Everybody was happy :)

Now out to the back deck. We began to leave. The tugboat that accompanied us was really cute - it spun around in circles as we left the harbor! There was a lighthouse on the corner that was pretty, and aircraft were taking off right across the ship as we left the harbor.

It was very rainy out at times, and relatively sunny at other times. It was quite pretty sailing along the coastline as we headed up towards the most famous part of the coast - the Na Pali section in the northwest corner of the island. However, at 5pm, just when we were planning on hitting the coastline, it was also time for our final Cruise Critics meeting. So about 4:30 I headed down to the room. I'd been watching for whales with binoculars all up until now, but no such luck!
