Quebec Ice Hotel Photos and Notes
Friday Night - Driving MA to the VT/Canada Border
I'd always wanted to visit an Ice Hotel - where the entire hotel is carved out of ice. When I read in the Boston Globe how their writer had been "too afraid" to remain in her room all night, I decided this was ridiculous - heck I'd winter camped in colder weather! How bad could an ice hotel be, with their high tech sleeping bags? I got my sister to go with me, and we planned to make it a weekend trip.
By 7pm on Friday evening, my sister and I were on the road, heading from her home in northern Massachusetts up towards the top of Vermont. We left about 7pm, with clear weather forecast for the weekend. The ride up went very quickly, as we talked and enjoyed the ride. Pretty soon we were crossing from New Hampshire into Vermont, and after a quick stop for gas we had hit the border of Canada, staying on the US side for the night. It was now about 10:30.
We pulled into quiet Newport, on the edge of a lovely lake, and went to the Newport City Motel. The web had said $50, but they quoted us $80/night because we wanted 2 beds for 2 people. Still, not too bad.
The motel itself was clean enough, although the room was a bit chilly when we first went into it. It warmed up quickly. I had gotten a new PSP the day before, so we played with the PSP quite a bit, marvelling at its graphics and sound, before tucking in about midnight. We were on our way!
