LISA & BOB:
Luxor, Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon Travelogue 1999

Bob and I hadn't had much of a vacation all year, so when it looked like we could have some time off, we decided to head out to Vegas and take some time roaming around the area! There is so much to see in that region of the states.

Tuesday, Oct 5
We left at 9pm from Logan, just at the start of fall. Leaves were turning, the weather was cool. We went on America West, which was a pretty bad decision. What tiny seating areas! Everyone was crammed in, and there were quite a few loud people on the plane.

I slept as best I could, and after quite a few hours we began our descent into Las Vegas. We peered out the window, looking for any sign of The Strip. We thought we had missed it, but suddenly just as we were landing - we saw it! Glowing pyramids, bright green buildings, all sorts of fun stuff.

We disembarked and grabbed our luggage. We had quite a bit of trouble with Budget, our car rental place. They wanted all sorts of extra information like phone numbers for friends and relatives!! This is pretty ridiculous for just renting a car that we're putting on a gold card. We finally spoke with the manager and got it straightened out, and headed out.

By now we were exhausted. We drove around anyway, admiring the various buildings.

Caesar's Palace

There were skylines of New York, giant reproductions of Paris and Venice, pirate ships, you name it. It was a giant fantasy land for adults. Not a friendly place, though - the veneer of cuteness over some pretty cutthroat mentality.

We finally pull into the Luxor, our pyramid-shaped hotel that has a giant beam of light shining out of its top. Apparently you can see this from the space shuttle! We meandered through the casino and finally found the registration desk. He looked us up, and said, "Hmmm, I can upgrade you for free to a jacuzzi room!" We were amazingly pleased and headed over to the "inclinators".

Because this is a pyramid, the elevators slide up at an angle to get to the level. We were on the 25th floor - it's a hollow pyramid so all rooms have pyramid windows. Our room had the jacuzzi, which we promptly filled and relaxed in. The stress of the day melted away.
