LISA & BOB:
Luxor, Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon Travelogue
Wednesday, Oct 6
We woke up pretty early and checked out of our Jacuzzi room. We took a lingering look at the strip from this room.

We drove around the strip a bit again, looking around, then jumped onto 40 heading south. We went across the Hoover Dam, which wasn't quite as impressive as we'd expected. The landscape was great, though, tons of huge rocks. They were huge and barren, and many looked ready to collapse.

Hoover Dam
As we wended our way eastward, the landscape kept changing. There were long desert dunes, then small scrubs in sand, then some dirt. Sometimes there were round rocks, sometimes exposed rock, sometimes short cactusses that were shaped like flat ovals.
We hit a point where we thought we should take a northern turn to get to the Grand Canyon more quickly. This path went through an Indian reservation. We headed towards more grassland, then headed up into a hilly area and now there were forests and trees, cows and horses in the ranges. Around an hour into this, we hit a gorgeous crevice area.

Indian Crevice
Bob suddenly pointed out to me that the road ENDED here. Period. No more road. The map we had had lied!! And we only had 1/4 tank of gas left. We had to turn around and drive carefully the full length back, hoping to make it out with gas to spare. Luckily, we did, and filled the tank back up. Strike 2 against Budget and their lovely maps they supplied to us!
With that 2 hour delay, we now were running late. The sun began to set as we made the final leg up to the Grand Canyon, and we hit there 1/2 hour after sunset. *sigh* Ah well ... we grabbed some dinner and went into the IMAX nearby, which showed the story of the canyon. It was pretty interesting, but we were exhausted from the driving and getting lost. We headed back to our hotel (quite a step down from the Luxor, but quite comfy) and after typing this section of the story in (half asleep), tucked in for sleep.
