Oriental Cafe Restaurant
Storrs Connecticut
The Oriental Cafe is located in a two-level strip mall across from EO Smith High School on the UCONN Campus in Storrs. I met up here with a friend who explained that this location was the second in a new chain - the first was so popular that the restaurant staff set up this new location to be closer to their clients.
The decor was very much like an inexpensive Chinese restaurant - booths and chairs, very casual decoration. Perfect for the high school and college students in the area who are looking for a quick, casual meal that is tasty as well.
My friend got a tiger roll, and I got the sashimi platter. The miso soup was nice and fresh tasting, while the salad was the traditional 'lettuce with ginger dressing' that you see in various places. It didn't stand out, but then again it's an American addition to Japanese menus in the first place. It's hard to complain.
The sushi was quite tasty, with nice cuts of fish. Service was friendly and relatively prompt, which you might expect as we were pretty much the only people in the place the entire time :) It is a new location after all, and word hasn't gotten around yet about it.
If you're in the UCONN area, it's well worth a visit to see what they have to offer!
