Ride - Nowhere

Ride was an amazing band with a relatively short life. Their first album, Nowhere, came out in 1990. By 1996, their fourth album released along with their implosion. In the middle, though, we were treated to a burst of great music.

Ride - Nowhere I tend to pair Ride and Spiritualized in my mind, perhaps because I was listening to the music at the same time. Both had a droney, harmony-rich, wall of sound feel to it. Ride was more drummy, with an active beat, while Spiritualized tended to be more drifting and meditative. Both appealed to me immensely for what they offered.

Three of my favorites on this album are In a Different Place, Polar Bear, and Dreams Burn Down. I could listen to the album over and over again, lost in those lyrics and intertwining instruments. Musician Andy Bell went on to play with Oasis, a band which gave him much more recognition by the masses. You can certainly see his talent in these earlier works.

This is definitely my favorite out of the four albums. Well recommended.

As a final aside, I love the cover. For some reason it always reminded me of Dune, with the worms traveling along beneath the surface of the sand.
