Ride - Going Blank Again

Going Blank Again was Ride's second album, riding off the popularity of Nowhere, their first. Bassist Andy Bell was absolutely at the top of his form here. I adore the intro song, Leave Them All Behind. I could listen to that on a loop. The way the bass weaves in and out, the vocals come in, the lead guitar, it's simply bliss.

Ride - Going Blank Again I know we all like different kinds of music, and different aspects of it, so I hope you'll forgive me for saying that I do still love Nowhere better than this second release. I find the same thing with Spiritualized. I like the overall feel of the first album, even if specific songs on the second appeal to me. So here, with Going Blank Again, as much as I adore the lead-off song, the rest are good but not (to me) *as* good and powerful as the offerings on that first album. Maybe to me the first album had more energy, or more raw emotion in it. Maybe this feels slightly more processed.

There's some fun mental connections that happen for me on this. When I listen to Mouse Trap it always brings to mind Donovan's Atlantis song, with its chorus "Way down below the ocean ...".

So yes I own the CD, I enjoy it, and that first song is superb. But when I'm ranking Ride's albums in order, I'll still put Nowhere first.

Enjoy!
