Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
There are albums you put on for fun dancing, or to race your car at top speed with the windows down. This is not one of those albums. Dark Side of the Moon has achieved its international fame because it is an album you really *listen* to.
With Us and Them, many different aspects of the same issue are explored. They talk about war - "Forward he cried from the rear and the front rank died." They talk about ignoring the poor - "For want of the price of a tea and a slice the old man died." In the song Breathe, they talk about how important it is to appreciate what you really have each day. "Balanced on the biggest wave you race toward an early grave."
They take on the way we use and misuse time, on how money "is the root of all evil today - but if you ask for a rise [sic] it's no surprise that they're giving none away."
It's like listening to poetry. Each song has quotable phrases in it that really stick with you. The last song - Eclipse - goes step by step over all of the things we feel are so important ... but in the end, are they?
Definitely a must-have song for every generation to rediscover.
