The Magic of Christmas CD
The Magic of Christmas by the London Festival Brass Ensemble is a collection of twelve classic Christmas songs all arranged by organist Leslie Pearson, who also plays in the songs. As you might guess, the songs have a "brassy" feel to them, along with the organ. Some songs are instrumentals while other songs involve the Choir of Trinity School, i.e. children's voices. There are so many millions of Christmas CDs out there that whether or not you like a particular one depends on the mood you're in. You might want a mellow Sinatra voice singing. You might be in the mood for acoustic guitar. Clearly if you're playing this one you're in the mood for a brassy / organy version :). The arrangements are interesting, and the music is well done. There was a time or two that I found the childrens' voices to be a bit "shrill" but again that could just be me. Others might find the voices to be perfect with the accompanying instruments.
The songs in this collection are:
O Come All Ye Faithful
Christmas is Coming
Silent Night
Ding Dong! Merrily on High
Away in a Manger
Good King Wenceslas
Jingle Bells
The First Nowell (that's how it's spelled on the album - I would spell it Noel)
The Holly and the Ivy
O Come Emmanuel
White Christmas
Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
So I do have this in my mix of songs I play around Christmas, and sometimes it's what I'm in the mood for, while at other times I lean towards other CDs. It's nice to have a mix of options.
