The Vine Bistro Putnam Connecticut Review

The Vine Bistro is in a long building in the center of Putnam's antique district. Be sure to make reservations ahead of time! We got there at 5 and had prime seating, in their cozy, pillow-filled corner nook. By the time we left, the place was jam-packed and people were waiting for seats.

The decor was both elegant and comfy. Artists works hand on the wall and are rotated seasonally. The menu reflects the artistic touch and has a good selection of interesting items. The wine list is relatively small but does feature some local wines which I enjoy greatly. When we ordered, we found it easy to substitute items and they would even reduce the price on substitutions.

We started with a basket of fresh breads which were very good. My Maryland Crabcake appetizer was very fresh and tasty, quite delicious. One of my only complaints was with the salad that followed - they didn't bother to ask first about the dressing or the cheese on it. I know of several people who hate dressing, and others who hate cheese, and both groups would have wanted to be asked if these additions were OK. I did enjoy it, though.

I'd heard good things about the vodka rigatoni but I opted for a seafood dish - Sea Bass - instead. It was pan seared, light and flaky, very moist and tasty. My dinner companion had the beef tenderloin which he said was very good.

To finish off the dinner, we ordered a Lemon Sorbet, served in an actual lemon shell. That was tasty. The Irish Coffee I ordered was on the weak side, though - save that one for when you visit and Irish restaurant!

Menu: Elegant options, good selection
Wine List: Good but small selection
Dress: Not a rigid code - business casual is fine
Staff: Quite friendly and helpful, willing to do extras to please
