Thai Place Shrewsbury MA

I've been to Thai Place in Shrewsbury, MA several times now. This small restaurant is tucked into the White City mall on the eastbound side of Route 9, right against Lake Quinsigamond. I adore Thai food and have probably been to every Thai restaurant in Worcester over the past 25 years I've lived in the area. I also have several friends who adore Thai food. So we end up here with some frequency.

On the good side, our chosen meeting time at 6pm seems to be ideal. There is usually nobody in the place when we arrive, and then the place fills up. So we always get our pick of tables. The food comes out fresh and hot, and is generally quite tasty.

On the down side, the waitresses are universally not well trained. The water glasses sit empty. They don't bother to take our drink orders for long periods of time. They don't check on the food quality after they deliver it, to see if there's a problem. The food comes out in a gigantic rush. We are still eating our appetizers when the main dishes arrive, and they force us to jam everything on the table. So now the main dishes are getting cold while we're trying to stuff appetizers in our mouth. It makes no sense at all. These are the very basics of running a restaurant. Surely these are things that even a "Restaurants for Dummies" book would instruct them on.

There's really no excuse for poor wait staff behavior to be going on. A waitress will stand at one end of a long table and shout orders down the table, and require the patrons to shout their answers back. Meanwhile there is a giant, empty spot at the other end of the table where she could have been standing instead. It makes absolutely no sense.

We've also had several issues with the bill, where they just didn't figure out the bill properly. We had to go back and help them through it to get it to be right.

I realize they mean well. But still, there are lots of other options in the Worcester area. We go here because it's convenient. We can always get a table. But they really should be doing better training with their staff to bring it up to the level of a "typical" restaurant in this area.
