Jewel Box Restaurant Review
The Jewel Box restaurant is located off of Kelley Square in Worcester - so not the best part of town. This location is where the Block 9 restaurant was and went out of business. I met up there recently with two friends to try out the Jewel Box menu and see what it was like!I really enjoy the decor. There are two halves to the restaurant - the left half with the dining tables, and the right half with the bar. I like this division a lot so the bar noise doesn't seep over and make conversation difficult. The bar has a really neat red color theme, with large, interesting wall items. The left side has a quite cool multi-painting swirling dragon image that I like a lot. So they get high points for decor.
The staff was amazing. Friendly, prompt, informative, always around but never intrusive.
The food was great too! This isn't "casual Chinese" food. No sweet and sour pork or General Gao's chicken. It tends more towards the Japanese than the Chinese. We all tried different things - a bento box, tuna, shrimp, and other items. Everything we had was delicious.
The experience from start to end was wonderful. My only fear is, because it's in an odd location, that nobody will find it and that it will fold. The night we were in there only one table was taken in the dining area, and only a few people were at the bar. I guess time will tell if it is able to draw in the traffic!
Menu: Delicious elegant delicacies, primarily Japanese
Wine List: Small but good
Dress: Casual is fine
Staff: Very helpful and friendly
