Grafton Inn Restaurant Review

The Grafton Inn has gone through numerous hands over the year. Normally I don't date reviews with exact dates since it doesn't matter much, but this latest review of the inn is from late 2009. That way you know "which version" of the Grafton Inn I'm reviewing.

I've been to the Grafton Inn several times over the years. It is a traditional colonial style building right on the Grafton common, where the Grafton gazebo hosts bands and concerts in the summer. It's an institution, across the green from the church, dating back hundreds of years I imagine. So you have to have that kind of expectation when you go there - this is about tradition, quiet, having a relaxing evening with family and friends.

The dining area has classic curved-back short chairs and wood tables like you could imagine having seen in the 1700s and which they'll probably have in 2200. Comfortable, useful. The wait staff was friendly and jovial, willing to talk and to help you with the menu. Most of the items are traditional New England fare. For an appetizer we got calamari and shrimp, they were very tasty and enjoyed by all. If there was any complaint, it was that they didn't time the distribution well. We were still eating our salads when they brought out the main course, so we had to do a lot of table rearranging to get the items to fit.

On the other hand, while they were too prompt with the food, they were very un-prompt with the water. Several of us are water drinkers and they left the glasses completely empty for long stretches of time.

If you're looking for a traditional meal, I would definitely suggest coming here. Just be patient with the staff and ask for a pitcher if you enjoy water.
