Crowne Plaza / Seven Hills Gourmet Bistro Worcester

I've been to several events at the Crowne Plaza, and have eaten at the restaurant several times as well. There's a small bar near the lobby, and further past it is the main restaurant area. This once was CP Whitneys, and is now Seven Hills Gourmet Bistro. The decor is the same, though - polished wood, nice etched glass wine case, two levels. The paintings are the English hunting style.

This review is a combination of our many visits, so I can talk about the different foods we've ordered and our experiences.

First, in general the wait-staff is always friendly, prompt and very helpful. They make suggestions with a smile, return to check in on you, keep your water refilled and are happy to chat and joke. The waitresses really go out of their way to help people feel comfortable and get just what they want.

We've tried many of the appetizers and love everything we've tried. I love the wild mushroom bisque - it's smooth, rich, creamy and has a great flavor. I also love the mediterranean hummis plate. The chips are fresh and flavorful, the hummis is delicious in that comfort food manner. I've tried the mozarella planks, which are triangles of breaded mozarella. They are certainly tasty, with the fresh dipping sauce, but since I can get mozarella sticks anywhere else, I tend not to order that here. The other apps are just too tasty to pass up.

There's a free salad bar that comes with the entrees, and it is REALLY good. There are numerous items here - types of lettuce, two types of olives, fresh cottage cheese, other cheeses, breads, and more. We always get and love the salad. It's something we look forward to. Well, all the food is what we look forward to :) So it's hard to narrow it down to just one part of the meal.

OK, now we get the main dish. Again, everything we've tried has been great. On one trip, I had the veal, while my friend had chicken paillards. The food was very elegantly presented - and my veggies came in little "bundles" wrapped up. I didn't finish my meal because it was so filling, and brought half home to my boyfriend - he really enjoyed it even as leftovers and commented on the presentation. My friend also didn't get through her meal and brought some home.

I've also had the Hoisin glazed salmon many times, which is incredibly tasty, with a great texture. The wild mushroom ravioli is also delicious. Oh, and the grilled filmet mignon with asparagus is very tasty too. The gravy is to die for. My chicken loving friend has tried the ale chicken breast and said it was tender, moist and very yummy. She loved the creamy skin-on garlic mashed potatoes, and she's normally not a mashed potatoes fan. I think you see a pattern here. We love everything we try.

On to dessert. On one trip, I had carrot cake while she had the raspberry cheesecake. Both were really tasty! The cheesecake was fresh and the berries fruity. My carrot cake was just the right amount of tender and flavorful. On another trip, I have the chocolate lava cake which was SO good, with a melted chocolate interior. My friend had the oreo cheesecake which she found to be spectacular.

Usually I go just with one other person - but I've gone with larger groups and everyone has tried something different - and we all really enjoyed what we got.

Well recommended! It's usually VERY quiet, very relaxing, and the food is delicious. It's well worth it to buy an Entertainment book so you get a free meal here every year - it pays for the cost of the book right there. Of course we go back much more than once a year, because we love it :)

Let me note that while it's not obvious, they will validate your parking, so make sure you ask before you leave. let me also comment that they seem to have a minor problem with fruit flies. I wasn't going to mention it - but I recently went there for breakfast (which was *great*) and I was being buzzed by one even then. So it's not just an evening-fly issue. I've only ever seen one at a time, but having one buzzing you while you eat can get to you after a while :)
