111 Chop House Restaurant Review
The 111 Chop House is the partner to the Sole Proprietor, a very famous seafood house in Worcester. The Chop House is the "Chicago Steak House" of central Massachusetts, but it also does in fact serve seafood if you really want it. The main draws here are delicious filet mignon and tenderloin. I've been here several times, primarily to treat people who adore steak and wanted a special one.The restaurant is one gigantic room, all hardwood, which is Very Loud. You might be lucky enough to get a semi-quiet nook to the side, but most people are either right in the middle, near the noisy kitchen, or near the noisy bar. Be prepared to talk loudly.
The wine list is SIMPLY INCREDIBLE. There's an entire large multi-column page dedicated to wine, with very very small print. This restaurant has won the Wine Spectator award numerous times for their wine list. It's not just full of filler. They start with very good wines and go up into the spectacular wines. I'll note that the wine steward isn't always knowledgeable about the wines though. When we asked him to compare several of them, so we could make our choice, he hadn't tried ANY of them and solely went on what he thought of the vintage. Also, they only have French Champagne - no US bubbly. So the prices are either cheap for cheap bubbly - or astronomical for French bubbly. There should be a few midrange options. On the up side, the prices for the bottles we chose were just about retail price which is UNHEARD of in restaurants. So you get some amazing deals. Also, they do have dessert wines on the menu, for enjoying after the meal, which many similar restaurants do not have.
Really, don't skimp on the wine. The food is so incredible that you'll want a wine that can stand up to it. The filet mignon is extremely tender and rich. We recently took a friend of ours from England here and he raved about the aged steak. He said it was one of the best steaks he'd had in his life.
The asparagus in hollandaise sauce is crisp and fresh. The creamed spinach is far better than any you've tasted. We raved over the mushroom stuffing in another dish, with its five types of mushrooms in a rich sauce. The salads were bursting with flavor, the appetizer of salmon was highlighted with capers.
For me normally the dessert was the perfect ending, but the time we came with our British friend, there was only one dessert he was even mildly interested in and they ran out of it.
I did see one man in here with tshirts and jeans, but that's really not the style of the place. Most people were dressed up for an evening out. The decor is shiny hardwood, elegant old posters, brass and shine. In general the restaurant is chock-full of happy people out to really enjoy a special occasion. The staff is very attentive and good with detail.
Let me note that the 111 is on the expensive side, and would not be well suited for families with small children or "very energetic" children :)
Put the 111 Chop House on your list for that celebration!
Menu: Specials include everything, or you can order your steak a la carte.
Wine List: Absolutely INCREDIBLE Wine-Spectator-winning list with many amazing rare bottles
Dress: Very nice - many have jackets and dresses. A few come in in collared shirts and nice jeans.
Staff: You get 3 or 4 people waiting on you, and plates literally did not wait more than 10 seconds before being cleared. We considered making it a game to see if we could catch them off guard.
