Sir John Middleton - Sense and Sensibility
Sir John Middleton is the man who "rescues" the Dashwoods and gives them a new home. He may be a bit silly at times, but he has a very good heart.1995 Sense and Sensibility
I like the balance here. Sir John is very open to his relatives, very welcoming of them to his home. He likes to tease them in a friendly way, and cares for them greatly.
2008 Sense and Sensibility
Where the 1995 version was very "rich" and fine, in this version he's laid back, in rough country clothes, shows up with fowl he's just caught. He's a friendly, congenial hosts. However, in the '95 version he is a widower - in this version he has not only a wife but TONS of children.
1981 Sense and Sensibility
There's little personality here. You'd think with the longer version they would flesh him out, but he's really shallow in this one.
