Sir Walter Elliot
Persuasion
I love the character of Sir Walter Elliot. He's so well drawn! He is blissfully ignorant of how the rest of the world lives. He is in his own noble air where rank means everything, he can buy anything he wants, money is infinite and those lower class people with "common names" are not to be bothered with. He admires himself in mirrors and only wants to associate with people who look good. It is just brilliant to watch.
The 2008 Masterpiece Theater version is below. I *love* the actor - Anthony Head - who played him here. He did a brilliant job. The little looks in the mirror, the little glances at people around him, just perfect.

This next image was taken to get the wine glass, since I run a wine site :)

The 1995 version was OK. This outfit is outrageous though.

Here he's with Elizabeth.

In the 1971 BBC version, Sir Walter was certainly adequate, and his follies and quirks are on display. It's just hare to really love him when the 2008 one was dead-on perfect.
