Mary Elliot
Persuasion

Mary is Anne's youngest sister. Out of the three sisters, she has married first. However, the man who married her - Charles Musgrove - really wanted to marry Anne. He only defaulted to Mary when Anne turned him down. Mary is *very* conscious of the family status and actively insists on the proper protocols being followed. She is also very attention-demanding, something that becomes key plot points throughout the story. Some people might feel she is over the top, but I really do know people like this :)

Mary

In the 1971 version, she is far more tame. I actually thought she was far too tame here. Yes, she puts her foot down, but she hardly shows any energy doing it, and it's a bit unbelievable that people give her as much thought as they do. I liked her much more in the 2008 version, she seemed much more realistic.

Also, below you see Mary in her home (she's feigning sick on the couch) which just seems far too "tiny flower wallpaper" for me. If you look at the comparisons of her home in the two movies, the 2008 version seems much more realistic.
