Trigun 8 - And Between the Wasteland and the Sky
In this bizarre episode, you get Vash with a kid whose voice sounds like Izzy from Digimon, or Kite from .hack! Watch for the strange faces, too!
While the first four episodes of Trigun were linear and had Vash avoiding bloodshed while being nice to people, this one begins with Vash bashing young "Kaite" in the head and making a gigantic variety of faces.
Suddenly all sorts of strange references are in the story. Vash doesn't want to kill anyone because of a promise to "her" but is now actively shooting people left and right. He gives a pen-radio to Kaite, and Kaite asks how he got his hands on "forbidden ancient technology". Vash says that Kaite won't believe him.
Vash gets gunshots all around him and is almost exterminated by a laser blast, but it turns out the 2 insurance girls are there in disguise and help out with a few blasts of their own. Vash and the lead enemy have a face-off on the main deck with a rock song playing in the background and the 2 girls worriedly watching. In the background appears to be passengers of the Titanic watching and hoping :)
The ship hits some rocks, the gun battle erupts, Vash gets knocked down by falling rocks and the enemy lets him go. The emergency brake fails, Kaite goes in and activates it but gets burned. B.D. Neon, the bad guy, does a selfless act of heroism but warns Vash that the next time they meet, there'll be a fight.
Kaite sings a song that reminds Vash of Rem. The cat just APPEARS by Vash's side when the two are sitting on top of the train looking at the double sunset at the end of the episode!
