Final Fantasy Unlimited Episode 16 - Kigen Dragon
The submarine, Jane, spirals through the Ocean Puzzle. The crewmen and passengers are knocked out. They wake up with the submarine on the top of a dry spire. The water of the ocean falls from above, bringing with it the "mermaid" Somosan, who loves riddles. For every question they answer right, they get closer to the exit; for every they fail, they get closer to Chaos. Three people are sent to answer the questions posed; Lisa, Knave (the leader of the rebels), and his purple-haired tomboy lieutenant are chosen. Knave takes the first question: "What goes on four legs, then two legs, then three legs?" Everyone says the riddle is simple, and Knave answers "A human". Somosan says he's wrong, and the correct answer is the Wonderland bacteria, Hemoran. Everyone is shocked. The second question, poised to Knave again, is again incorrect in a completely ridiculous way (the answer is Ocean TV). Knave is asked his third question, comes up with the answer, dismisses it and picks another, and then is shocked when his first answer is correct. For his failure, Knave is melted into a puddle. The purple haired girl (Miles) goes next, and also fails all three questions. The Miles puddle joins the Knave puddle. Now it's Lisa's turn; three wrong questions will drop them into darkness.
Earl Tyrant and his crew are all entertained by the proceedings. They all say the questions are easy. Meanwhile, Lisa fails twice. She's nearly paralyzed with fear and doubt, but then she starts laughing her fake laugh. Somosan yells at her for it. Lisa remembers back, to her mother helping people with her Kigen Arts, but then she gets sick when she uses too much spirit. Lisa's mother asks Lisa to smile before she (the mom) dies, and Lisa has to put on a fake smile, since she's really so sad. Lisa remembers that even though she was unhappy often, she always put on her fake smile. Kaze yells at Lisa, and tells her to stop laughing. Lisa realizes the truth of the questions; there is no answer. The whole thing was rigged, and Somosan was just making up answers as she goes along. This turns out to be the ultimate correct answer, but apparently this means that Somosan can destroy the cube in her death. Water rushes from above, and Lisa sees her mother, telling her to use her ultimate Kigen art. Lisa transforms into a massive water dragon to save the ship, an act which suposedly will take her life. Before she can fully fall to her death, she's rescued by Kaze.
Lisa wakes up later on the submarine. The others tell her of the Kigen Dragon. Lisa laughs for real, and Miles comments on it. Kaze's sitting off in the corner. Pist shows up to say "Start the Second Stage!"
