A Basic Dragonball History
Dragon began its life, as many Japanese cartoons did, from a comic book. The Dragonball comic books (or manga) were written by Akira Toriyama. Soon the tv show followed, bringing the adventures to a new audience.
The series was so popular that two TV series came into production. One was Dragonball, with Son Goku as a young man like the comic book. Then Son Goku became an adult and had a son of his own - this was Dragonball Z. In addition there was a series done without Akira that had mixed reviews for many, called Dragonball GT.

The plot of Dragonball involves ... of course ... dragonballs. These are magical objects - 7 in total - scattered around the world. Whoever finds all 7 dragonballs summons Shenlon, a giant dragon, who will then grant a wish. Then the dragonballs are rescattered and things start all over again. The hero of the story is Goku, and his enemy is Piccolo, Jr.
While there is a bit of violence in the series, it's mostly a kid-oriented good-vs-evil that appeals to the hero in us all.
