Berserk Episode 3 - Baptism of Fire
In Berserk Episode 3, Guts finally joins the Band of the Hawk and realizes he has much to learn about fighting.
Guts still hadn't conceded defeat to Griffith, the leader of the mercenary band called Band of the Hawk. Guts and Griffith fight for a while, with Griffith fighting with easy style and Guts resorting to tossing dirt in Griffith's eyes.
Griffith gets Guts to sword-point and asks him to surrender; Guts bites the sword and then kicks and punches Guts. Finally when Griffith has Guts down on the ground, Griffith asks Guts to choose between joining the band or a dislocated shoulder. When Guts does not answer, Griffith calmly dislocates his shoulder.
Griffith tells Guts that he now owns him and that Guts is a member of the Band of the Hawk.
A few of the other mercenaries plan to kill Guts in the night, as revenge for their dead comerade, but Casca talks them out of it. She tells Guts she only did this out of loyalty to Griffiths and that she hopes that Guts dies when they get into combat.
When they do go into a fight, everyone is surprised when Griffiths gives Guts a critical task. They realize that Griffiths has great faith in Guts. Guts indeed does well and at the party afterwards the other mercenaries celebrate Guts as a hero. Guts tries to avoid the party but the others carry him down to join it.
