Berserk Episode 2 - Band of the Hawk
In Berserk Episode 2, you are in a flashback (as is most of the series) to when Guts was younger. In this episode, he first meets the Band of the Hawk.
Guts is only 15 at this point, and when he faces up against a large axe-wielding soldier in armor, everybody laughs at him and his giant sword. In short order Guts kills the soldier by slicing his axe in two, and everybody is impressed. Guts is asked to stay on, but he takes his money and leaves.
A mercenary band was watching and is upset that they didn't get to kill the soldier. When Guts walks down a country road later on, the members of the band discuss attacking Guts for his reward money. The leader, Griffiths, doesn't care either way and says they can if they want.
Guts easily takes care of the attackers, killing one. Griffiths sends in a female fighter - Casca - to help the other mercenaries and Guts takes her down and is about to kill her when Griffiths steps in. Griffiths easily defeats Guts.
Guts dreams about his childhood and killing a man. He also dreams that Casca lays down with him naked. He wakes up and goes outside - Casca punches him. Another mercenary explains that Casca was ordered to lay with Guts to keep him warm while he was injured.
Guts wants to leave and Griffith wants him to join the band. Griffith offers him a deal - they will fight one on one. If Guts wins he can leave, if Griffith wins, Guts stays.
