Berserk Episode 1 - The Black Swordsman
In the very first episode of Berserk, called The Black Swordsman, we get introduced to the world of Midland and the atmosphere of the game.
The scene opens in a gritty bar, with the traditional "western" bar area, and round wooden tables with wooden chairs around them. Not quite a medieval English bar to go with the castle theme :)
A group of miscreants are sitting at a table harassing a young girl, who is about 8 years old. They are forcing her to pour them wine. They tell her if she spills any that she'll have to lick it up. Her grandfather staggers in to tell them to stop, and they kick him down. They then force the girl to spill the wine and make her start licking it off the table.
Suddenly one of the bad guys is shot in the head. The others look up to see a man in black standing in the door of the bar. He shoots all of the rest of the bad guys except one. The black man tells the remaining bad guy to tell his boss that the Black Swordsman is in town.
Now the minister of the town goes in to the King to tell him what is going on and offers money and food as an apology. The King laughs at this and instead spears the minister and kills people. Meanwhile, the black swordsman is in the forest and dreams about a man named Griffith. He has a brand that bleeds.
The Black Swordsman shows up and faces off with the King, shooting him with a repeating crossbow. The King goes down but comes back up as a demon. He claims he is immortal and cannot be harmed by the swordsman.
The Black Swordsman indeed takes the King down with an arm cannon, and the King spots the brand on the swordsman. The Black Swordsman kills the King as the King pleads for mercy. The Black Swordsman then takes the pendant the King is wearing, which he calls a "Behelit".
We get a flashback to the swordsman as a younger soldier, facing off against an armored man with an axe, and the first episode ends.
