Family Cookbook Profiles

While the recipes in a family cookbook are delicious, often it's the profile area that helps you learn the most about your family members.

The most important think to realize about the profile area of your family cookbook is that it is a snowball that will start out small. When you first get your questionnaire back from a person, it will have general notes about what that person liked or didn't like. It's often very hard to just think up off the top of your head what you loved to eat when you were three.

Put up as much information as you get. Be sure to link siblings' pages to each other, and to have an easy to use index so that everybody can find everybody else easily. You can see my family cookbook profile page here -

If you click on the second generation George Waller, you'll see a lot of detail. That didn't all come at once! Each time a new profile was sent in, all members of the family were alerted and told about the new information. They would all come and read it and add comments about what they remembered or added to that knowledge. The profile submitter would then clarify more. As this went on, more and more information was revealed not only about the original profile submitter but about many other family members.

So don't think of the questionnaires as the end of the process. It is merely the beginning, to get the creative juices flowing! The more that family members share each other's memories, the more it will remind them of other events, and help make your family cookbook even more complete!
