Why Is Bird Poop White?
There are some things that people just have to know about birds. One is why birds poop white while most other critters poop brown.
Actually, I own parakeets and if you look at a parakeet poop, it's a roll shape. There's dark on the outside and white on the inside. The dark part is the things the bird didn't digest. The white part is the urates, i.e. the stuff that we humans pee out. Parakeets don't pee, they just 'eject' all of their wastes together.
So that uric acid plus the water waste turns into a white paste, that the bird kicks out of their system as poop. They really don't eat much 'undigestible' food. A bird that survives mostly on fish (i.e. seagulls etc) will have pretty much solid white poop. A bird that has greener poop is getting greens and fiber in its diet, things that aren't being fully digested.
Interestingly, penguins love krill, and if they eat a lot of it, their poop turns pink!
