Smallest Bird
As you might assume, it's a hummingbird that claims the smallest bird award. The hummingbird is the mellisuga helenae that lives in Cuba. It is under 3" in length and most of that is bill and tail.
Smallest Bird of Prey
The smallest bird of prey is the Black Legged Falconet in Asia. This bird is only 5 1/2 inches long which includes a tail of about 2" long.
Smallest Owl
The tiniest owl out there is the Elf Owl, Micrathene whitneyi which is barely over 6" long. Its full wingspan is only 15 inches.
