Seattle Washington 2009 BellaOnline Gathering
Since I was alone in the house I tried to sleep in a bit, but the bright sun coming into my room woke me up around 8am. I got up and showered, and headed down for some cereal. Al / Musician showed up bright and early, so it was a good thing I had not slept in! He was eager to do some high quality brainstorming on his various projects! We talked for quite a while about the websites he was developing and brainstorming ideas on how to set up each one. He put a microphone headset on me so he could just record my entire conversation instead of trying to scribble notes furiously. I found it a bit odd to talk like that, but got used to it.Soon we had Skype going again, chatting with various editors as they came and went. A little after lunchtime Pam / Special Needs Children arrived with her son. We had all the food out - strawberries, cherries, trail mix, peanuts, veggie mix, popcorn, you name it. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, although it was a little chillier than the previous two days. Where on the previous two days we had the doors wide open and gentle breezes blowing through the house, today we had the doors shut and just a few windows open.
We were having a blast by now. We were playing the rainstick and other instruments (more cowbell!) for our Skype visitors. We were taking the laptop out on the porch to show our Skype visitors the beautiful scenery. Each new editor who joined us would get a personalized support session for their site. Editors would sign on to talk, eventually have to go, other editors would sign on, and the conversation streamed on. Pam cooked us a lovely chicken for a brunch, with rice.
Finally it was mid-afternoon and Al had to make the three hour journey on home. Pam stayed and we talked with more editors. We realized the tide was heading in and this was their last chance to go down to the beach. We did a walk on the beach which was wonderful, looking at the rocks, gathering up shells. The tide was too far in for us to find more sand dollars but we did get a lot of shells.
Then back up to the house and to our Skype fans!
It was after 11pm before Pam and her son reluctantly had to go. We packed up all the remaining food except my milk and cereal and sent it off with those two. Once they were off, I brought my suitcase downstairs so I would not have to navigate the tight spiral staircase with it full. I began packing up all the musical instruments and other gear. Luckily now I didn't have the heavy notebooks or pens any more! Plus I'd brought a lot of food with me and much of that had been eaten or gone home iwth Pam.
I logged onto the Expedia website to check on my JetBlue flight. There was no way for me to choose a seat - they said I would have to wait to choose it at the gate when I checked in. I also researched taxi websites and found one that seemed good, and wrote that number down for the morning. It was about 1am when I headed upstairs for my final night in Seattle!
