Seattle Washington 2009 BellaOnline Gathering
Saturday we all had settled into the house quite nicely. Al / Musician and Rae / Body Art woke up and Rae began cooking the most WONDERFUL breakfast for us. By the time I was awake and downstairs she had pretty much finished a delicious pie-pan baked concoction that involved lemon flavor over a flaky cake-like item. She'll send along the recipe soon. It was great! We worked on hooking up Skype - the video conferencing system - and soon we had all sorts of editors joining us! It was great! If there was just one editor we could do a full video conference, and if there was more than one it had to switch to audio only. Either way was tons of fun. We talked about building traffic, earning an income, fun ideas to write about, self publishing, and much more.
In the early afternoon Rae had to go to catch her bus home. We bit her a fond farewell. By now the tide was very far out, so Al and I took a break from our Skype world and walked along the beach to enjoy the super low tide. We found a number of tiny sand dollars! There were tiny crabs that I had great fun playing with, and these strange tube-like things sticking up from the sand in colonies. I thought they were pebbles at first but they had a squishy consistency when touched. Maybe they were geoducks?
We went back in and Al played me a song on his wood Japanese flute. We did some more work on his sites and projects in between Skype calls.
The door bell rang - the pencils had arrived! Hurrah! I was able to give out pencils to all the editors at this point, as a memento of the trip. They are recycled newspaper pencils, so made from recycled newspapers, and they say the "Seattle 2009" type of stuff on them. Of course the pens haven't arrived yet so I'll have to mail those out when I get home. It's always something :) A tiny problem compared with our wonderful weather and discussion!
Then Beverly / Tatting arrived and we had even more fun. Al played his Japanese flute for us all (via Skype out to the world!) which was beautiful. We played with the rain stick and other instruments we'd brought. We brainstormed about selling products and finding topics to write about and building forum traffic.
Finally it was very late and Al headed out to his friend's house in Bellevue to visit and stay over there. Beverly stayed, tatting away, brainstorming further with fresh visitors. She had brought some delicious Washington fruit wine with her which we enjoyed greatly with our other food items.
It was even later - perhaps around 11:30? - before Beverly called it a day and headed back home. The Skype people signed off to head to sleep. It had been a fantastically fun and productive day. I was exhausted and headed up to bed!
